Manchester's ugly mug is one of the
best
A man pulling a funny face has been crowned
'Gurner of the Month' by a Cumbrian website.
Ken submitted his picture to the www.cumbria.uk.com
online gurning competition. The site is now asking for people to vote
for the best face.
Every year for over 730 years, gurners have
attended the Egremont Crab Fair in Cumbria to stick their head through
a horse collar - called a 'braffin' and make a grotesque face. But now
funny face pullers all over the world are being invited to have a go from
the comfort of their own home or office.
But there are strict rules about the use
of artificial aids, "Purists may like to use a horses collar to pull their
faces through, other than that no aids (such as fingers, elastic bands
or sticky tape) will be acceptable".
There have been a number of suggestions as
to how gurning began, perhaps you have your own theories.
For now though, Manchester's best gurner
is Ken - unless of course you know different.
