WESTMORLAND GAZETTE, April 9, 1999 Resort provides a site for surfers... Grange-over-Sands has gone online and already 100 people have clicked into the holiday town. Internet surfers can find all they need to know about accommodation, shopping, what to do and where to eat and drink. The site, which has been designed to appeal to visitors, residents and business people alike, is the result of a partnership between South Lakeland District Council, Grange Town Council, Cumbria County Council, Grange Chamber of Trade and Grange Now. And it is hoped that it will continue to grow - eventually including what's on and community information about the many clubs and societies active in the town. The partners have been working for three months to get the site - first mooted last July - up and running, and it was launched at a ceremony attended by Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Collins. Designed by Kendal-based Web site designers The Dedicated Partnership and funded by advertising from local businesses, the project is a scheme that other South Lakeland towns could well repeat, according to SLDC's head of cultural and tourism services, Jim Walker. He said: "It is unique really, because first of all it is a partnership project, and also because it is a site that not only deals with tourism promotion, it deals with community information." And he added that as well as the development of more commercial and community information, there was also the possibility of strengthening links with local schools. Mayor of Grange Councillor Penny Chapman said: "As more and more people become familiar with the Internet it is vitally important that Grange uses this new technology to benefit local residents and businesses." Grange's new Web site can be found at www.grange-over-sands.com.
